Roles and Responsibilities

Functions as a General Physician within both the medical and surgical departments while acquiring experience.
Evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients across all age groups for various diseases and disabilities.
Implements preventive care strategies in accordance with established protocols. Except for the history and physical examination, all procedures must be conducted under direct observational supervision.

Prepares for and takes the North American licensing examinations, as necessary, to qualify for residency training programs in North America.

PDPs have the chance to engage with patients in both inpatient and outpatient clinical environments.
During their inpatient rotations, PDPs will be assigned a group of patients and will be required to gather a complete medical history, conduct a thorough physical examination, and develop a preliminary assessment and plan after utilizing the EMR system to review the patients' investigations and radiological studies. Following an educational discussion regarding the case with the designated preceptor, the PDP is anticipated to order further laboratory investigations if deemed necessary, as well as prescribe suitable medications and other therapies that have been approved by the preceptor.

The PDP is also expected to carry out specific procedures under supervision, including nasogastric tube insertion, abdominal paracentesis, and suturing of minor wounds, among others.
Additionally, PDPs are required to participate in multidisciplinary clinical rounds and family meetings, accompany the attending physician in consultations and ER referrals, and engage in patient health education and counseling.

Moreover, they are expected to attend teaching sessions, departmental educational activities, and grand rounds. PDPs are also anticipated to prepare medical presentations for their department and take part in research projects.
